Waking up to the news today that Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19 felt like a weird out of body moment. So, I’m going to take the stance that both the President and the First Lady do in fact have Covid-19. In truth, I am quite skeptical that this isn’t a campaign tactic.
Twitter has been crazy! The general consensus that this news is brilliant, but to be honest, I don’t agree. I have absolutely no love for Donald Trump nor do I remotely care about his health and wellbeing; my concern lies with what this could mean for the Presidential campaign and more importantly, swing voters. It isn’t a secret that this election is important for a number of different reasons more widely it gives the US the chance to remove a fascist that is intent on destroying the fragile foundation that the US currency stands on.
If Donald Trump dies, there’s a big chance that he’ll become a martyr. This won’t help Biden to take the swing votes. Look at the way many British people dealt with the hospitalisation of Boris Johnson. The focus was placed on a romanticised version of his job as opposed to his failing policies. My fear is that will be replicated. Instead of looking at the issues with his Covid-19 policies that he fell victim to, the focus will instead be placed upon his hard work and how ‘fake media’ had foiled his efforts.
If Trump survives, Covid can be reduced to an illness that is easily beatable, which is disastrous. Cases are rising and people still are being complacent. People are ignoring scientists and refusing to wear masks. His recovery, for many, will prove that his policies are working and there is nothing to worry about.
No matter which side comes to fruition, there will be consequences for the way the pandemic will be dealt with. I guess we will have to see when the US will get a President and potentially a new world order.
